When I was given the opportunity as Business Development Manager at Creatacor, I knew I had a lot of fun work coming my way. One of the job functions I looked forward to most was training and growing a group of Client Service focused teammates. For me this process is all about relationship building, which, if you are in the Trade Show industry, you know, is the core of our business. So it makes sense that if we are constantly building and managing client and vendor relationships, as a team, that team should also have a strong working relationship. A relationship that is based on trust, empathy and full of “whatever it takes” attitudes.
It is very easy to get lost in your work, day after day, week after week, month after month and pick your head up after a while and think “I haven’t talked to so-and-so in a long time, guess we all get busy…” and just move on to the next task, the next meeting, the next project. This is why I feel it is important for all managers to make sure people are interacting, are building trust and practicing empathy. To that end, we decided, as a team, that we were long overdue for a break! We needed to spend some time outside the day-to-day and let our hair down and not talk about work (too much) and just have some adult conversation, get to know each other more and make sure our relationships, as a team, remain strong. So we booked a lunch and creative activity for the afternoon!!
First stop… Druthers Brewing Company for some food and refreshments!
After getting our “fare” share of food and bev at this wonderful local brewery, we moved to Creative Sparks for some Pottery Painting. It sometimes seems like our Design Department gets to have all the creative fun, so we thought it would be a blast to hand paint some pottery for our desks, kitchens and kids.
The conversation continued over paint and clay and some chill tunes. After finishing our masterpieces we are told that they will be fired in the kiln and ready in a week. Needless to say, we are super stoked to pick up our fine pieces of art that, to me, symbolizes our team forging new synergies, learning more about each other and strengthening some already great relationships.
